I'm going down on June 8 and returning July 27. Nice, long break. Can't wait for school to be out. Any plans yourself to be in Playa this summer?

Hey Jen and everyone on the forum!
I leave Weds AM and am getting excited.
By the way is the ADO / Rivera Bus schedule up to date on this site? I printed it off and am following it--so just wanted to double check.

I should have a nice trip report upon my return. Were visiting Puerto Moreles, Playa, Punta Allen and possibly (if we can squeeze it in- Akumal for the day)

In PM we will go to the botanical gardens- hope to see monkeys.
In Playa were volunteering one day at the Peanut Pet Shelter washing dogs. (Staying at Jungla Caribe- never been there)
In Punta were staying in tents at Serenidad Shardon.

Cannot wait...

What kind of hotel are you looking for?

If you like a smaller more quaint hotel, http://www.lunata.com/ is an option.

http://www.mosquitoblue.com/ is very pretty and romantic, but it is a bit more expensive.

A nice option for you might be http://www.hotellatortuga.com/ where you can get a room with a private rooftop jacuzzi and they will work with you if you want to have champagne and rose petals.

There are lots of romantic restaurants around Playa.

Byblos is a very pretty and tiny little French restaurant tucked over in Calle Corazon.

Jardin Limones is in a pretty courtyard on 5th Ave between Calles 6 and 8.

Yaxche is touristy, but the garden area is quite lovely http://www.mayacuisine.com/restaurant/index_yax.html

http://www.lacasadelagua.com is quite romantic.

http://www.lacuevadelchango.com/ has a jungly, romantic vibe.

Does anybody else have any romantic favorites they can share?

Playa is definitely no longer a "quaint fishing village".

Sadly, our vacation has ended and we are back home. Playa has grown a lot since we were last here, it did not seem quite as laid back as I remembered it.
The Hotel Aventura Mexicana was a very nice place, and I highly recommend it for those who prefer not to stay at the all-inclusive resorts. It is clean and well kept, the staff is very friendly, restaurant and bar prices were reasonable, and it is only one block from 5th ave.
It was peaceful and quiet day and night, and I could get wireless internet in our room.
In our room there was no door for the bathroom area, but there are walls, and the room was configured in a way so that you still had privacy when you needed it.
I would stay here again without hesitation!

I never have purchased my Xel Ha ticket online. I never know which day I'm going to go and don't want to have a hassle if I can't go on the date I purchased a ticket for.

You have to purchase it at least three days in advance online, so I wouldn't do it too early just in case something changes.

Here is their cancellation policy (the way they wrote it):

"All cancellations are subject to 8% charge of the total amount as a handling fee.

Cancellations should be carried out al less two working days before the date of visit, Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM GMT 06:00 calling + 52 998 883-0470 or via our Contact Us page.

The reimbursement will be seen reflected after 10 or 15 work days from the date of request.

In case of utilize not its ticket (not to be presented to the appointment) or last minute cancellations (the same day), this will not be refundable."

Hehe...yeah, I guess what I mean by basic is a room with AC, and the one they had available just has ceiling fans. I just got a confirmation back from Hotel Delfin and they have a basic room with AC so we're taking it.

I know I'm not in the right forum to ask this but, do you recommend buying tickets to Xel-Ha online before we go? Or waiting till we get there to purchase them?
