Today we are enjoying a brilliant sun and a blue sky…
Locals and tourists are all working together, everyone cooperating in the way they can.

We would like to inform you of the updated situation about Playa del Carmen and La Tortuga Hotel and Spa after Hurricane Wilma.

We want to share with you today's pictures, which were taken a few hours ago.

We would like to inform tourists and everyone concerned that Hurricane Wilma was a strong and slow Hurricane that hit Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya Friday and Saturday. It has now left and the sun is out again. Playa has been affected in a major way but both authorities, residents and also toruists are working hard to get things back to normal. The present situation is calm and under control.

Many areas in Playa already have electricity and water, and a few restaurants/shops/stores are open.

Cancun Intl Airport will probably be reopened on Thursday.

Hotel la Tortuga decided to stay open and take care of its guests, explaining the exact and updated situation of the evolution of the hurricane.

All our guests are safe and waiting for news from the airport.

Their rooms were safely closed by wooden panels, and they were given food and beverages, and 48 hours guard.

Our main goal was the guests safety and well being, and we think we have achieved it.
We put all our energies in this, and now we are putting all our energies in making the Hotel perfect for future guests.

The Hotel is functioning at the present moment and we excpect to be fully functioning by 5/7 days.

All the staff is working, the restaurant is open, the maintainance workers are cleaning the local areas, and the rooms did not suffer serious damage. We have electricity and water, we have problems with the phone and internet only. If you have been writing to us, please know that we are still without internet connection. As from tomorrow morning we will be answering, but we will be slow as we will be working from outside the Hotel.

We would like to thank all our wonderful guests who understood the situation and were cooperative during the hurricane. They also helped us clean up after Wilma - La Tortuga wouldn't be functioning as it is without your help. THANK YOU!!!!!
