My wife-to-be and I are planning on having out honeymoon at the El Dorado Royale in late May. I have read that the resort still has some damage (pools and first floor units) yet is currently open. Any word on a repair time-table? I would hate to come down to a 5-star resort and see a bunch of construction going on.

Hi!

It is certainly understandable for you to want the best for your honeymoon. May is quite a ways off and there is plenty of time to finish repairs. Have you contacted the El Dorado Royale directly to express your concern and ask them their timetable for completion of repairs?

The resort only began accepting guests again recently, so you can keep an eye on the reviews on places like Tripadvisor to see what the returning guests are reporting.

Best of luck to you!
Jen

Yes, I have contacted the resort directly and they said they will be fully functional by January, but may still be improving buildings or facilities when we are there (made me a bit nervous). I have been looking to get a more accurate view of how things are going from a "3rd person". I'll check the posts again closer to May - which is quite a bit away.

Thanks.

p.s. How would you rate the El Dorado?

Due to the increase of searches for information following Wilma, I added resort info to the forum.

ILovePlaya doesn't have any of the all-inclusive resorts listed on the rest of the site. This is a travel guide to assist people who are staying at hotels located in the town of Playa del Carmen. Only smaller hotels located in Playa are listed here, because those are the hotels I stay at and tour when I am in Playa. Smile

I never go to any of the big resorts, so I can't rate EDR at all. I wish I could help you more with that.

Have you tried the LocoGringo forum? I think they have many people who stay at resorts on their forum.

El Dorado Royale is located about 25 minutes south of Cancun and about 15 minutes north of Playa. It's close to Puerto Moreles. Therefore, you might also find more info on some of the Cancun forums.

I wish I could be more helpful to you!

[i]We just returned from the Eldorado and it was wonderful. There is some new construction going on, but it is all blocked off from view and we did not hear any noise. We wouldn't have even noticed it if they hadn't told us they were expanding. We stayed in a ocn vw jr suite; I do recommend the ocn front rooms w/swim up patio. The service was impecable. Make dinner reservations your first day and pack your swim suit in your carry-on so you can enjoy the pool while you wait for your room (check in at 3 pm).
