Playa del Carmen ~ View topic - Is Riu Palace Riviera Maya the right choice?

My friend and I are planning to go to Mexico March 15th-21st. We're both single professionals (male) in our early 40's and have travelled throughout the Caribbean and Mexico. We chose Playa del Carmen for the beach and because it is a good distance from the Spring Break crowd....don't get me wrong, we like to party, but we like R & R just as much...good food, drink, a gym and some massages would be perfect! Also, we're wondering if a place like this is a little less couples oriented than a resort like Aventura Spa Palace??? We're very hetero and sociable and would prefer not to feel like we're the only single people at the resort.....a varied crowd would be good. Is this resort close enough to the town to venture off the property? If you have any suggestions, comments, etc. I'd appreciate hearing from you.

The Riu Palace Riviera Maya is brand new, so there isn't a whole lot of info about it out there, yet.

The last review says it was mostly couples. I don't stay at the resorts, but I would think the majority of people would be couples at most of the resorts in the Riviera Maya.

Have you checked out Royal Porto Real?

This is right in town, but maybe offers some of the amenities you are seeking that aren't offered at smaller Playa del Carmen hotels.
