Playa del Carmen has plenty of fun beach bars and nightclubs to keep you entertained late into the night. Most of the bars are open-air and have streetside and outdoor seating.
- Relax with a cold cerveza while listening to live Blues at Bourbon Street.
- Take a jacuzzi while enjoying a margarita on Deseo's rooftop bar.
- Dance under the stars in front of the night sea at Blue Parrot's beach bar.
- Dance and eat jello shots overlooking the sea at Señor Frog's.
- Enjoy live music while people watching at a streetside table at Siesta Fiesta.

Alux Cave is located on Juarez Avenue past Highway 307. Taxi from downtown is 17 pesos.
Live music, DJs, big-screen TV for sports, Martinis, Wine, Beer. They do it all.
Amaris Bar Lounge is located in Plaza Paseo del Carmen.
Funky ambience with an eclectic mix of blue and red furnishings. This place is very cool. I hear it is for sale, though. Drop by and give 'em some love.
Art Bar is located on Calle Corazon near the Spa Itza entrance.
A pretty place to relax and listen to live flute music under a palapa roof. Ajua also has fantasic Mayan Cuisine.
Small, but generally clean restroom.

Dance club with a 1,200 person capacity featuring a high-tech sound and lighting system. Special shows and performances with fire, water and ballons. VIP area. Bali is a late-night club and doesn't open until 10 PM.
Bali Club is located on Calle 12 between 5th and 10th Avenues. Cover charge.
An outside entryway leads past an outside reception area with a recycled tire floor. An elevator brings you to a clever and stylish rooftop bar. Complimentary Salsa dance lessons in the early evenings will have you floating on a Mexican rooftop swirling around with a warm Caribbean breeze.
Basico Lounge is located on Calle 10 between 5th and 10th Avenues across from Babe's Noodles.
Casual, unpretentious bar to drink a few cold cervezas and shoot the...you know.
The Beer Bucket is located on Calle 10 between 5th and 10th Avenues.
Indoor dance club with outdoor balcony. Live rock band on Thursday-Saturday. Ladies night from 10 PM-12 AM on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. 70s-80s music on Sunday nights.
Bliss opens at 9 PM.
Bliss is located on Calle 4 between 5th Avenue and the Beach. No Cover.
The Dragon Bar at the Blue Parrot is a long-time favorite in Playa del Carmen nightlife. The over-30 crowd might enjoy it better in the afternoon for lunch or a drink on the beach.
At night, it's packed with a younger crowd, dancing to techo music on an outdoor beachside dance floor. The Dragon Bar at The Parrot stays open until the crowd goes home.
Restroom lines can be long at night, and can get a little on the unkempt side.
The Blue Parrot has a cover charge between 60 and 100 pesos starting at 10 PM. You get two free drink tickets if you have to pay the cover. The Blue Parrot also blocks the beach access with a neon green rope and security guards at night.
The swings around the bar are gone and the fire dancing shows that were perfomed nightly have been discontinued following a fire in late 2005.

Indoor Cuban dance club with live dance bands. Free Salsa lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 PM.
La Bodeguita del Medio is located in Paseo del Carmen, near Carlos 'N Charlies. No Cover.
Stop by for a frozen "Pink Death" or a refreshing Caipirinha and listen to live Blues music every night.

Captain Dave's has free live music on the beach in the afternoon and evenings. Check out the Nasty Bastards on Thursdays and Saturdays from 4-8 PM. No shoes, no shirt, no problem!

Sorry, they are open! Carlos 'n Charlies is a loud and rowdy bar where the younger crowd loves to drink yard drinks and get plastered.

Coco Maya is located on the beach between Calles 12 and 14, between Blue Parrot and Blue Beach Hotels.
A candle-lined staircase leads you to this chic, poolside bar with rooftop jacuzzi. Silent black and white films are projected on the side of a building, while sheer curtains billow above outdoor beds. Deseo has cool bathrooms, too.

New in 2006, this bar and restaurant is located at the former location of Da Gabi Restaurant.

Great beach bar to soak up some rays and drink cold cervezas on a sunny day by the sea. Grab a swing by the bar at night and listen to reggae music-open until about 3 AM.
El Pirata is located on the beach between Calles 10 and 12 between the Blue Parrot and Colibri Hotels.
Nice people watching on 5th Avenue, with live music every night beginning at 7 PM. Fun, festive and casual.
Fah Bar at Siesta Fiesta is located on 5th Avenue between Calles 8 and 10.
The name implies cool, and this is where to go if you want an upscale, martini crowd. Happy hour from 5-7 PM.

Funky little bar which you can't miss, because it really is a lime bar. Neon lime. Happy hour nightly from 7-9 PM.

Very casual watering hole that is popular with Playa locals and regular visitors.

Indoor Salsa dance club that features live Latin bands every night and a festive atmosphere for all ages. Salsa dance lessons are offered for a small fee early in the evening. Ladies drink free on Wednesday from 10 PM to midnight.

Pez Vela offers outdoor streetside and upstairs tables. The bar was remodeled and has swings as barstools and clean, larger restrooms. Pez Vela has a pool table and live music in the evenings.

Downtown Playa del Carmen gay bar and dance club. Opens at 9 PM.
Playa 69 is located on 5th Avenue between Calles 4 and 6.
Romantic and pretty poolside bar located in Blue Parrot's 5th Avenue Hotel courtyard.
Playasia is located on 5th Avenue between Calles 10 and 12.
This is just a tiny little bar located in front of the Hotel Posada Freud. It's a great little place to stop for a drink (they make 'em strong). This bar is frequented by some locals and long-time repeat visitors of Playa del Carmen, and they'll usually have up-to-date information on any new places in town to check out. It is a great place to strike up a conversation at the small bar, while listening to the live music from Siesta Fiesta, next door.
Posada Freud is located on 5th Avenue between Calle 8 and Calle 10.

For dinner, grab a table overlooking the Caribbean. Afterwards, move into the bar area for live rock bands, dancing, and a fun, party atmosphere. Live rock/dance bands on Tuesday and Saturday nights.
Señor Frog's has clean restrooms with attendants working for tips.
Señor Frogs is located right by the Playa del Carmen ferry pier.
Señor Frogs suffered considerable damage from Hurricane Wilma and was still being rebuilt when I visited on 3 April, 2006.
A laid back place to sample some of the huge selection-over 100 kinds-of tequila.

2 Dollar Drinks is located on 10th Avenue between Calles 6 and 8.
Ula Gula. C'mon, you know it's got to have it goin' on with a name like that. A good place to leisurely enjoy an evening cocktail.

Stylish and classy gay lounge bar located on Playa del Carmen's north side. Open Monday through Saturday from 7 PM-1 AM.
Wana Bana is located on 5th Avenue between Calles 30 and 32.
Rock out to some tunes while watching all the street action below on 5th Avenue. Loud and fun.
Yellow Submarine is located on 5th Avenue between Calles 10 and 12.
Tapas and wine bar with live music in the evenings. Live Tango show at 10 PM. Hours are Tuesday-Sunday from 5 PM to 1 AM.

Captain Tutix has closed following extensive damage from Hurricane Wilma, with no plans to re-open.
Frida Bar, former location of Pancho's Restaurant, permanently closed in 2004 and is now the location of Playasia Restaurant and Bar owned by The Blue Parrot.
Impala, located off 5th Avenue on Calle Corazon, has closed.
Lumpax, formerly Kuba, located on the beach at Calle 4, has permanently closed.
Moon Bar, located in Paseo del Carmen, closed December 2005.
Xotic, on Calle Corazon, is now John Gray's Restaurant and Bar.
- This is just a partial list of bars in Playa del Carmen. There are even more! There is plenty of nightlife, with something for everybody.
- A lot of the bars around 5th Avenue do close early, between 11 PM and midnight. Most of the dance clubs aren't hopping until after midnight.
- Beers run between 20 and 35 pesos at most bars. Mixed drinks and Margaritas are priced from about 35 pesos and higher.
- The drinking age in Playa del Carmen is 18.
